CAN YOU DO BLOOD DONATION AFTER DIVING
Yes, you can donate blood after diving, but it is recommended to wait before doing so.
Blood donation removes fluid from your body and can cause mild dehydration. Dehydration is a known factor that may increase the risk of decompression sickness (DCS). For that reason, many diving medicine experts recommend:
- Wait at least 12 hours after a single no-decompression recreational dive before donating blood.
- Wait 24 hours after multiple dives, deep dives, or dives over several days.
- Make sure you are well hydrated before and after donating.
If you plan to dive after donating blood, it is generally recommended to wait at least 24 hours before diving. Blood donation temporarily reduces blood volume and can make you feel fatigued, lightheaded, or less able to cope with diving stresses.
For divers, the safest order is usually:
- Dive.
- Wait 12–24 hours.
- Donate blood.
If you are teaching or guiding dives, or if the dives were particularly deep or repetitive, I'd lean toward the 24-hour wait.
How many dives did you do, and what were the depths? I can give a more specific recommendation.
